Bachelor Thesis

Themes:
Development of a web-based remote maintenance solution

Task description:
The use of remote maintenance solutions is an integral part of the industry in today’s digital age. The factor IT security is playing an increasingly important role. The solutions currently available on the market often focus on the functionality of remote maintenance itself and often provide only insufficient mechanisms in the field of IT security. The aim of the bachelor thesis is the development of a web-based remote maintenance solution that takes into account all essential aspects of IT security. This includes in particular that all authorized users of the remote maintenance solution log in via a secure authentication (2-factor) via an encrypted connection to the remote maintenance solution. Thereafter, a likewise VPN-encrypted connection to a remote maintenance destination should be initiated without the operator being able to enter or view any user names and passwords for accessing the remote maintenance destination. The task includes the selection of a suitable hardware environment, the implementation of the software solution including the user interfaces and the administration area.

Master thesis

Themes:
Master thesis on digitization in German municipalities

Structure and topic of the thesis: The master thesis consists of a meta-study on the subject of digitization in German municipalities with a focus on the field of water supply and sanitation. The meta-study is carried out as part of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy research project MUNICIPAL 4.0 (www.uni-wh-ieem.de/kommunal4null in cooperation with HST Systemtechnik GmbH & Co. KG). The aim is to systematically present the status quo and identify future research needs by analyzing and comparing existing studies on this topic.

Start: from now.

The IEEM gGmbH – Institute for Environmental Technology and Management at the University of Witten / Herdecke combines the academic disciplines of “Technology” (Engineering) and “Economics” (Management, Finance) into an applied and transdisciplinary science. As an independent institute, our projects are funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

IEEM gGmbH focuses on classical urban water management in close connection with applied environmental economics. Most of the projects take place in the international area, both in western industrialized countries (Europe, USA, Japan) and in emerging and industrialized countries (Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe). In cooperation with small and medium-sized companies on site, the institute develops and implements projects in the water industry, always taking into account economic aspects and financial options.
